Die Cut Challenge with SOUS - In the Water

For this week's die cut challenge with SOUS - you can use anything in the water. I chose to use surfboard die cuts for this challenge.
I decided to use an older collection from MME - on the sunny side for this layout. I have had this 6x6 paper pad for the longest time. I am glad to have used it. It is a beautiful collection for summer related layouts. I also made a 8.5x11 layout. This format seems to be the trend lately. I think it totally makes sense if we are using only a single photo.

Here is my layout:

This is a photo of my son trying to boogey board in Hawaii during one of our vacations. He had so much fun. I used MME and Studio Calico enamel dots to add a little more pop of color. I also used some stickers from my latest Studio Calico kits. The cut out the surfboards with my silhouette. The cool thing is all the paper is from a 6x6 paper pad.
Do play along and you could win a prize from the cutting café.

June 20th Sketch for SOUS

Here is another fun sketch challenge for your from SOUS. I love circles, they add that special touch to any layout. Here is the sketch.....

Here is my take. I totally enjoyed making this. I usually make layouts with pictures of my kids. This time I wanted to document a little bit of our garden. We have a pretty cute garden and of course the best part of it is the roses. I love the pop of color they add.

I changed the scale of the sketch a little bit. I also moved the little circular photo up as it did not fit in the lower portion of the sketch. I encourage you to do the same. Adapt the sketch to your photos. I also always have to add a little bit of journaling on my layouts. I truly think that it is important to document your thoughts about the photos especially when you took so much time to create a layout. I typed the journaling on to a tag and fit it on my layout. I cut out the loopy circle with silhouette. All the elements I used on this layout are from kits that I get from Studio Calico. I also added some gold mist towards to the end.

Here is a close up of the journaling:

Have a great weekend!

June 13 Die Cut Challenge for SOUS - Animal

Hi all, this is my first project as DT member for the Die Cut Team at SOUS. I am very excited about this. The current challenge is to use an animal die cut on your project.
My favorite die cutting machine is my Silhouette. I also own a couple of cricuts (which I will never go back to) and a cuttlebug. But I do any and every kind of die cutting pretty much only with my Silhouette. And here is another fact, I pretty much only love to make layouts. So that is what you will see most of my die cuts land.
Here is my project:

For this challenge, I selected the turtle shape and replicated it and fused them in Silhouette software. I then cut out the shapes at the top and the bottom like a border for the photo. I then backed the cut out shapes with green patterned paper. I chose turtles because my son is in the turtles group at his daycare. His teacher asks him a question a day(almost) and records his answer. I got the book home with all his answers and typed most of them out and added that as my journaling for this page.  Under the vellum journaling, I did some painting with yellow water color to extend the yellow patterned paper. I am so happy that I documented this, some of his answers are so funny, I am sure he will enjoy reading this when he grows up.
Hope you enjoyed looking at this layout. I sure enjoyed making it. Join us by playing along for a prize from

June 6th Sketch for SOUS

Happy Friday! I am so ready for the weekend. How about you? Hope you will find some scrappy time to play along.
So today I am here to share with you the current sketch from SOUS. Here it is:

If you want to get in multiple photos on to your layout, then here is your chance. I instead selected to combine the cluster of photos into one big photo. Other than that, I stayed true to the feel of the sketch.

For this layout, I wanted to have a little bit of fun with the background. I got out my Teresa Collins Stencil and my inktense watercolor pencils. I then selectively colored in through the stencil with pencils and and went over each arrow with my paint brush dipped in water. I then layered some patterned papers in the background and added my photo. I love the chipboard stickers from Simple Stories - Urban Traveller collection. They were perfect for this photo.
The photo itself was taken from the airplane on our way out of Costa Rica. I love it. I totally didn't want to leave, we had had such a good time there. It was one of our most fun vacations.
Hope you will play along with us! I would love to see your creations. It has been so fun to see different interpretations of the same sketch. If you play along, you will get a chance to win some fun goodies. You can win any 3 sets from The Cutting Cafe
