May 23rd Sketch for SOUS

I am so ready for the weekend. I can't tell you how much. Actually Friday is really busy, I think I am overbooked with activities. Thanks to school closing, end of baseball season, celebration at work, gym. Not sure how I am going to handle all this.

But check this sketch out from SOUS. It is a really nice one. I really like circular elements on sketches. It just helps break up the lines and add a special interest.

Here is my take on it:

This is a photo of my son in the dug out cheering on his team. His team did so well, they were the league champions and also the play off champions. It was so nice to see Arjun playing so well.

I used a bunch of different patterned papers from my older Studio Calico kits. For the journaling semi circle, I cut it out with the silhouette and used water color paper. I then painted it with water color and wrote on it.
Hope you enjoyed checking out the layout. Can't wait to see what you do.

Have a great day!

Being Featured

It is so cool to be featured in any sort of way on any website. But being the 'Featured Project' at Two Peas In a Bucket website is super cool. Today my project was the featured project at Two Peas. I have been so excited since this afternoon.
I made this layout while playing along a challenge at Studio Calico. The challenge is to scrap lift the person above you on that particular thread. So the person who had commented above me was a very talented card maker, so I adapted her card design to create my layout. It was more of a challenge than I thought it would be. But it was also a lot of fun.

Here is my layout:

Actually this layout itself is super simple. The most complicated part is to cut out the photo as a circle. I  used my silhouette to cut it out using the print and cut feature. I then used a bunch of papers from the Camelot kit from Studio Calico. The colors in this kit are so dreamy and lovely. I also used a few embellishments from my previous kits. My favorite paper is the pink gradient paper which I used as mat for my photo. It is from Dear Lizzy Day Dreamer Collection.

This is a photo of my in-laws and Surya at the beach. Last year when they visited we made it a point to take them to the beach multiple times. It is amazing to see how much they love the grand kids and how much care they take of them. The kids obviously love them too. They have a wonderful time when they visit and they feel so special.

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!

Sketchbook Class - Sketch 2

Here I am with another layout based on the sketchbook class being taught at Studio Calico by Kelly Purkey. I like her clean and modern style. I can relate to the layouts she makes completely.
On mother's day, all my boys and our friends kids decided to make a dinner for the moms so they left the moms alone for most of the day. So guess what I got to do!?! Scrapbook a lot. In turn, I decided to make a layout of my mom which I hardly ever seem to do. I found these photos which are a few years old and made my layout. As I mentioned in my previous post, we are provided with one main sketch and multiple interpretations of that sketch in each lesson. I based my layout on Marcy Penner's interpretation. I love her layering techniques and perfectly imperfect look that she is able to create. So here is my layout:

I made this layout with the Camelot Scrapbook Kit from Studio Calico. I think after the Sugar Rush kit, this is my second most favorite kit. I absolutely love the dreamy colors it has. It is just a simple layout with strips of paper above and below the photos. I decided to add some gold accents to go with the photos by using the puffy gold stickers, gold rub-on and stamping with versamark and embossing with gold powder. I also added some Heidi Swapp Gold Lame mist in the background.
Hope you all had a great mother's day!
P.S. The dinner turned out real good and fun.

Sketchbook Class - Sketch 1

Loving this class - this class is being offered by Studio Calico. I have been enjoying all the wonderful classes that are offered by them. In this class, every week, we are provided with 3 sketches and 4 variations for each sketch. So there is a ton of inspiration. I love to create my layouts using sketches. Not everybody likes this. But for me, a sketch is good, it sometimes pushes me out of my comfort zone and makes me create layouts that I would have never made. In this class, we have also been provided with a bunch of printables, cut files, stamp sets and digital brushes. All of them are totally awesome. Here is my first layout that I created using the first sketch.

I made this layout with a photo of Surya at the zoo. He has a great time there. He loves to play in the playground, he loves to go in the little train there and he loves the check out all the different animals. He is just happy.
In order to make this layout, I mainly used my Sugar Rush kit from Studio Calico. It is one my most favorite kits. I also used the printables provided in the class. You can see that they are pretty cool.
Hope you enjoyed checking out this layout and stay turned for more inspiration from this class....
Happy mother's day!

May 9th Sketch for SOUS

Happy Friday friends! Hope you have some great plans for this mother's day weekend and hope you will be able to set aside some scrappy time to start or finish your favorite projects.

Love this sketch by Leah for SOUS. It is simple and can be interpreted in multiple ways as you will see on the SOUS page. I love how my fellow team members interpreted this. I really like the mix of talent that is there on this team. It is amazing how a single sketch can spawn off so many different interpretations.

Here is my interpretation of the sketch. Simple with a lot of layers in the background:

For this layout, I decided to use up a bunch of leftovers that I had from my papers. I used all the strips that I cut out from the bottom of the cardstocks. I tried my best to keep the colors cohesive. For most part they were. But then when I layered over some patterned vellum over them, it seemed to tie everything together better. I added a frame from basic grey over the photo to follow the sketch. I have so many of these frames lying around, I am glad Leah had this element in the sketch. I made it a point to use the frame. I typed my journaling on vellum and added it to the bottom. I added some texture with enamel dots, metal clips and staples. The staples of course helped keep the vellum in place too.

Here is a close up of the journaling:

I also wanted to show you the photo by itself:

Arjun loves to play baseball. He has been doing so good and it also helps that he is in such a good team. The Mets won every single game they played this season. They already won the championships and the playoffs are going to start tomorrow. He is really striving to also be a good sportsman on the ground which is great. He is the oldest kid in his team and he seems to be living up to the responsibility which really makes me so proud. He helps the little kids put on their gear, he walks them to the spot they should be in on the field. He is an excellent fielder. He seems to be so aware of what is happening on the field. Can you tell I am proud!!?!!

Okay, now play along! I want to see your interpretation of this sketch. We have an amazing sponsor for this month - paper bakery! Have a wonderful day!

NSD challenges

Did any of you play along any National Scrapbooking Day challenges? I did play along some Studio Calico challenges and even won a couple. So cool. I checked out the challenges at Two Peas but didn't have time to play along. But they seemed quite fun too. It was a very busy weekend for us but I did manage to do a little bit of scrapbooking.

Lately I haven't been posting my layouts on the blog regularly. I am making them but I don't seem to be finding any time to post them.

Here is a layout I made for a couple f the NSD challenges at Studio calico. I combined a mood board challenge and sketch challenge. Here are the links to the challenges:

And here is may layout which combines the sketch and the colors from the mood board.

I love these photos of Arjun and Ananya. They have grown up so much since then. They are so cute and little here. I was taking an online photography course at this time and I was trying to experiment with them. They were being very naughty and running around while I was trying to take their pictures. I am happy that I got at least a few good ones. The photos are not perfect but look at how adorable the kids are.

To make this layout, I combined a whole bunch of Studio Calico kits. I made a mini kit that went with the mood board and made my layout. Actually it is a very simple layout with a little bit of fun layering in the background.

Hope you enjoyed looking this.... Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day ....
