August 29th Sketch for SOUS

Hello all! Happy Friday and I can tell you that I am looking forward to the long weekend. So school started this week and we are slowly getting into the school routine. All the activities have not started for my boy yet but it is just a matter of time.

So today I am up with a sketch inspiration from SOUS. The sketch was created by the very talented Nanne from SOUS.

And here is my interpretation. The first change I made was to make it an 8.5 x 11 layout. They seem to be the rage these days and a lot of people seem to be adopting this style. I think I am going to do more of these especially when there is a single photo on the layout. It forces you to think a little different and I think I am liking the change after making tons of 12x12 layouts. Also the advantage with this size is that you can print directly on your main cardstock if you plan ahead. For this layout I used 4x4 photo of my son performing at the battle of the bands contest a few months ago. There were a bunch of bands from our area competing in this contest. My son's band didn't win a prize but it was a great exposure for them. They were also the youngest kids on stage.

All the patterned paper, stamp, sequins and the vellum are from the Studio Calico kits (my absolute favorite thing). The gold stars which did not photograph very well and also from Studio Calico. The stickers are from one of Amy Tan's collections.
Be sure to play along to enter into the drawing for a prize from limeCitron. Can't wait to see how you interpret this sketch.

Die cut challenge for SOUS

Hi everyone... I have been out of action for a long time now. We were out of the country on vacation for six weeks. It was wonderful getting to meet family and friends and do some sight seeing along the way.

I am up with a layout for the SOUS die cut challenge this week. The topic this week is 'Blow Out The Candles'. Use die cuts that have anything to do with a party for your project and link us up and be eligible for an entry to win a prize for the month of August.

Here is my layout using cocktail glasses as die cuts. I first replicated my glasses and tilted them and placed them randomly using my silhouette software. I then cut it out on white cardstock using my silhouette. I backed it with some fun patterned paper from Studio Calico. I also filled in a couple of glasses with silver sequins. I used a photo of a friend and me having fun at a place called Windmills Craftworks in Bangalore. The place is a microbrewery. I am not a big drinker but got to taste a couple of different flavored beers and had some mocktails and cocktails. We had a fun fun time.
