Mid Week Mojo - Pearl 6 and Color Me Scrappy 10

I get to combine two challenges again this week. I like that. So I used the colors from Color Me Scrappy challenge and the sketch was from Scrapbook steals Mid Week Mojo.

I loved the sketch and the colors. There was hot pink in the mix. Two boys and hot pink? Instead of shying away from using the color, I decided to go all the way in and use it generously on the layout.  Now in the layout challenge the designer used a hexagon cut out background. I just loved that totally.... the hexagon fad has been around for quite some time now and I haven't made a single layout with hexagons till this one. I wanted to make a hexagon mat too. But I don't have a cameo, so I used Gypsy and cricut. I should have made the hexagons a little bigger, but it turned out like a close first cousin to the that cut out with Cameo. I also cut a sample one out first, and used that as a template to spray on some yellow mist as the background for my journal block.
P.S.  I still can't find my power cable for my gypsy so I had drive around quite a bit and charge it with my car charger again.... WHERE COULD IT POSSIBLY BE? I think it is high time that I just get a new one.
For this layout I decided to use a photo that I took on trip to Cancun. We had just reached there and Arjun couldn't wait to run into the water even though it was getting dark. But the water was so nice and the weather so great that we decided to go into the water anyway. This photo was taken on our walk to the ocean.
Here is my layout:
Materials used:
  • Washi tape : My mind' eye - Indie' chic
  • Patterned paper: 6x6 crate paper and Indie chic
  • Plain cardstock : DCWV and Core'dinations
  • Cricut Cartridge: Accent essentials
  • Stickers: Recollections
  • Color Mists: Mister Huey's - Taxi

Color Me Scrappy 9 and Sketches in Thyme 86

Two for one challenge. I like it . This time color me scrappy combined their challenge with Sketches in Thyme. Do check out all the work done by their design teams.
For this layout, the challenge was to use the colors from color me scrappy and the sketch from sketches in thyme. It was a fun challenge. I now know of a new sketch challenge website. I hope to find time to play along those challenges too.
For this layout I chose photos that were taken in 2006. Arjun was about a year and a half old then. These are photos of his first trip to the zoo. He was sooo tiny then. I felt quite nostalgic making this layout. I have been wanting to make a layout of this trip forever but could never figure out how... do I make a book for photos taken on just one day, do I collect pictures from all our trips to the zoo over time and then make a book and so on... I am happy that I got it done finally.

Here is the layout that I made:

Products used:
  • Patterned paper and most of the embellishments: Alphabet soup
  • Chipboard Pinwheels: Cosmo Cricket
  • Twine: Kraft fun day

Mid Week Mojo - Pearl 5 sketch challenge

Here is another week and another sketch challenge from scrapbook steals. This week's layouts have a more distressed look due to the collection used. I usually don't make layouts like this but what I like playing along the MWMs is that each time I seem to be getting exposed to some new technique or new layout style and in the process having so much fun.I had exactly the correct paper to achieve a similar look.

I made this layout with a photo of Arjun, my son and his friend Ananya which was taken at my friend, Amrita's engagement party. The kids were being very silly and making faces whenever I asked them to pose for a photo. They were looking at each other and trying to mimic each other's silly faces. I just happened to catch this moment when they were transitioning to the next silly face. I simply love this picture. Can you imagine how many photos I have of them with silly faces.....

We have been friends with Amrita and her family for many years. They belong to the Punjabi Sikh community. I myself am from a different community in India and have never seen a Sikh wedding before. It was very special to be part of all the celebrations leading up to the wedding and the wedding itself. The wedding itself was such a beautiful and touching event.

I also want to take this opportunity to express my condolences to the Sikh community and in particular to the families of the victims of the shooting at the Gurudwara recently.

Here is the layout that I made based on the sketch

I used the following products:
  • cricut cartridges: Plantin schoolbook, Fabulous finds, Elegant edges, Give a hoot, Graphically speaking
  • Paper: My mind's eye - 100% boy
  • Pearl brads: My mind's eye - lush collection
  • Copper brads: Recollections
Here is the sketch by Kristy from scrapbook steals. The layout she made is simply gorgeous. Check it out.

Pearl - Layout 4

I love the layout made by guest designer Jeniffer McDermott for scrapbook steals. I have been wanting to make a layout like this for sometime. I again abandoned my plans to make a travel layout because I thought the sketch was so suitable for my kids' photos.

I have been running behind Surya, my two year old around the house and taking photos of him with my iphone. So I put a bunch of them through instagram to get fun black and white pictures of him. It was such a challenge to get him to be still. At 2 Surya is developing his own unique personality and is learning new things everyday. It is not rosy all the way, he is throwing tantrums but at the same time he is so cute and adorable that his tantrums are pushed aside.

I made a two pager out of the sketch. I used color mists and stamping on this layout which I don't usually do. It gives the layout such a fun dimension. I also had a blast making it.

Here is my layout:

Materials used:
  • Plain cardstock: DCWV
  • Patterned cardstock: Studio Calico - Memoir collection
  • Color Mists: Mister Huey's - Taxi
  • Ink for stamping: ColorBox
  • Stamp:Inkadinkado
  • Bling:Basic Grey - Bling it on
Here is the sketch for Pearl 4:
