Nov 28th Die cut challenge with SOUS

Happy Black Friday! Do you have major plans for shopping? I am not too good with crowds. I may just do some online shopping.

This is my last project as design team for SOUS. It has been a wonderful year and so much fun creating projects for them.

This weeks theme for the die cut challenge is 'Into The Woods'. Use die cuts that are trees, animals, tents .... Check out the SOUS design team projects to get more inspiration.

Here is my project:

I know this is a non seasonal layout. But for this theme, this was a suitable picture. This is a photo from our camping trip last summer. It was a fun adventure. Staying in a yurt is honestly best of both worlds. It was so comfortable and at the same time, we hung out and did a little cooking outside. The kids had a blast running all around, sitting by the campfire and making smores.

For the layout, I first designed my whole page in silhouette studio software. I then cut it out on a white cardstock. I backed the whole white cardstock with a kraft cardstock. I backed the circles below with water color paper and painted all the elements and stuck them on. I needed some color in my title as the bottom was colorful. So I finished it off with some enamel dots and a clip.

Here is a link to the die cuts:

Can't wait to see what you do with your projects. Do link em up at SOUS and play along.

I will miss being part of the design team with SOUS!

Have a great day!

SOUS NOV 21 Sketch challenge

Hi everyone! This is my last post as DT member for the SOUS sketch team. I had a great year with SOUS. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful ladies. Here is the sketch for this week:

and here is my take on it:

This is a photo of my son dressed up little Krishna. Krishna is god in the Hindu mythology known for his naughty behavior. This suits Surya's personality completely. We had a late Diwali celebration at UCSB this year. A bunch of 4 and 5 year olds were dressed up as Gods and Goddesses from Hindu mythology and did a little act on the stage. The kids are so adorable.
I made all the crowns and some arm bands for this show with my silhouette and I had a bunch of gold and silver paper left after the project. I ended up punching the scraps with circle punches and cut some up into strips and used them on this project. The patterned paper and the die cut leaves are from the Walden Studio Calico kit.
Have a wonderful Friday! Hope to see your creations linked up to the SOUS blog.

Nov 7th sketch challenge with SOUS

Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! Here is yet another Friday! Where does the time fly!!! Here is another sweet sketch from SOUS. It is a fun one.

Here is my take on it:

I used a photo of my son admiring the ocean. I made it more of a whimsical page just with the addition of the feather and the journaling. I added a quote a by Dr.Seuss, it's good advice for a person of any age.
I used up elements from a bunch of my studio calico kits that I collected over time. You can find the feather die cut here. The blue circle and yellow paper along the border are from the same cardstock. I just cut out the circle from the center of the cardstock and then stuck my white cardstock on the yellow base. I then stuck the circle on the white cardstock. I was very pleased to use both sides of this gorgeous cardstock by Dear Lizzy.
Hope you will join us and play along with us at SOUS. Just create a layout based on the sketch and upload it to the SOUS page.
Have a wonderful day!

October 31st Die Cut Challenge with SOUS

The die cut challenge with SOUS this time is  die cut anything 'Trick Or Treat' . As usual, I made a layout with this theme and used some fun die cuts from the silhouette store.

I chose to use a photo of my kids all set to trick or treat last year. For Surya it was really the first time that he could understand what was happening. He was so excited to collect all the candy and go to never ending amount of homes. He is so looking forward to do it this year too and of course so is Arjun. A bunch of his friends plan to come home and they all want to go together. They will have a blast I am sure.

I printed a 6x11 inch photo and punched a few circles on top just to add some interest. I used the UNDERGROUND kit from Studio Calico to make this layout. I then cut out the die cuts with my Silhouette using one of the patterned papers from the underground kit to complete the layout.
Here the links to the images used:

Hope you have a fun and safe Halloween! Have a great day! And of course join us in this fun challenge. I look forward to seeing all your fun projects.

October 24th Sketch Challenge with SOUS

Happy Friday! And it is time for another sketch challenge from SOUS. Here is the fun sketch by Nanne.

I most definitely started with the sketch and digressed quite a bit from the it I think. But the layout is in the spirit of the sketch.

For this layout, I first drew the circles in the background with the mist tubes attached to the mist caps. I unfortunately ended up covering most of the circles. I know this was a rage a couple of years ago but I never tried it thinking that I would never be able to make a proper circle. But with multiple circles, you can easily adjust this. I then added some washi tape over the circle, I then added a gold vellum paper as a mat for the photo. I love this paper and I got it from the studio calico Underground kit. I then collected all sorts of embellishments in green and grey and added them onto the circles. I then added my photo and the title. For all the materials, I used a whole bunch of my older Studio Calico kits including stickers from the very first kit that I had received from them - the Spencer's kit.

I have to say something about the photo itself. It is adorable. Surya is 7 months old and Arjun is 6 years old. The little one knew hot to take care of himself since then :) The journaling says it all. They are older now and they had a blast looking at this photo. They were both asking me questions about what had exactly happened. I truly don't remember. It's been a long time.

Hope you will join us for this sketch challenge at SOUS

Have a great day!

October 17th Die Cut Challenge with SOUS

The die cut challenge for this week is ANYTHING AUTUMN! For this challenge, I decided to make a layout with a photo of my son that was taken last year at the pumpkin patch.

Here is the layout:

I had fun cutting out those leaves with watercolor paper and painting them. I used both gelatos and normal water colors. This is the first time that I have ever used gelatos. I need a little practice. After the paint dried, I sprayed it with some gold mist. You can get the die cut here.
This is a very simple layout but with a dramatic effect with the die cuts. Hope you will join us at SOUS.

October 10th Sketch with SOUS

Happy Friday! Here is the sketch for this week from SOUS. Make sure to stop by and check if you are the winner of prizes for the fun blog hops we had last month.

I stayed pretty much true to the sketch. I just changed out my journaling to be in the top left on a tag instead.
Can you believe that it is already October 10th!!! Where did the summer go? Time sure flies. I was reminiscing about summer and found this photo of my son's 4th birthday in June. We celebrated it at the beach with close family. He was so excited.

I first splattered some gold, pinkish orange and grey mist on to the background and added my paper layers and put my photo on top. For this layout I used a whole bunch of my older Studio Calico kits. It's cool that the papers and embellishments will work when put together over multiple kits.

Hope you will join us for this challenge. Can't wait to see your interpretation of this sketch.

October 3rd Die Cut Challenge with SOUS

The die cut challenge with SOUS for this week is:
WE'RE ALL MAD HERE..
But use a top hat, tea cut, tea pot or saucer etc
*you can go all Alice in wonderland if you'd like or just stick with the items listed above.. Totally up to you, but this is another one to totally go crazy..
The challenge for this week was really quite a challenge for me. I wanted to make a layout but didn't know what to do. So I made a card. Trust me, cards are not my forte. But for this theme, I thought a card would work best.
So here it is:

I got the cut file from Studio calico here. For the tea bag, I used microbeads to make the tea leaves. It was fun to make a card instead of a layout for once. Join us for this challenge for some fun prizes.
Have a great day!

September Blog Hop with SOUS Sketch Team

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! I love Fridays! You should be coming here from Nanne's blog. If not please start the hop from SOUS. Trust me, there is tons of inspiration along the way!

Here is the sketch for the blog hop:

And here is my take on it....

Us, there are many types of ‘Us’ in this world. For this layout ‘Us’ is my brother and me. We are about 5 years apart and being a boy and girl we didn’t have too many friends or activities in common while growing up. Also it is amazing how different we are in so many ways….. our interests, our professions and how tall he is and how short I am in front of him. It is real fun to see photos in which he is actually smaller than me in size. There came a time when I had to stop bossing over him and if I hit him, my hand would hurt instead of him feeling it! But we are always there for each other and will always be there for each other.

I rotated the sketch to make this layout and I also adapted it to a 8.5x11 size. For this layout, I again used all my studio calico goodies, including the cut file in background. I did some layering behind the photo. I typed up my journaling on a tag and also added a pocket and added some more journaling on the tag inside the pocket. I then added some little gems and stickers and called it a day.
Hope you enjoyed looking at it because I totally enjoyed working on it and going back in time.

Here is the close up of the journaling....

September 12th Sketch with SOUS

Happy Friday. Here's yet another week gone by and we are at Friday. I am up with another project for SOUS. Have you been taking part in the September festivities?!!!? Two chances to win fun prizes and with all the blog hops three more chances to win. So it is a fun month for all the participants.

Here is the sketch for this week:
I love this sketch and I especially love all the different interpretations of my fellow DT team. Here is my interpretation:

These are photos of my son that I took on a boat ride. I love them and they capture the fun he had on that day. I first stamped the background with the colors in the patterned paper. I then followed the sketch to add some fun patterned paper. I then made a strip with my photos and added them on. I then added the tone on tone embellishments. I also added words on the photos with some letter stickers. All the products used on this layout are from kits that I get from Studio Calico.
Have a great day and a great weekend!

September 5th Die Cut Challenge with SOUS

The die cut challenge with SOUS this time is to use any die cut related to school. With the schools starting, the timing is apt.

Even though, I have to say, I went back in time a little bit for this challenge. I found my son's kindergarten class photo. Oh! so cute. He is so grown up now compared to how he looks in this photo. My goal is to scrapbook the class photo from every year.

Again for this challenge, I made a layout. That is my favorite thing to do. I pretty much don't do any other type of crafting ... not even cards, believe it or not. With the amount of stuff I have hoarded, I should be doing different types of projects. But naah! I just end up making a layout every time.

I again used all my favorite supplies from Studio Calico to make this layout. I cut out the Kindergarten and the K with my silhouette. Since I planned ahead and made an A4 sized layout, I could actually print out my journaling on the cardstock. I then misted this area little bit with the colors from the layout. The badge, enamel dots and apple clip all add texture, color and interest to the layout. Here is my layout:

This month is special for SOUS. This is our anniversary month. Come and join us this month for some fun blog hops and prizes.

All september participants will be eligible to 2 grand prizes. And the generous sponsors are FancyPants and Zeus and Zoe.

Can't wait to see your projects linked up with SOUS. You can be a really lucky winner. Come and play with us.

August 29th Sketch for SOUS

Hello all! Happy Friday and I can tell you that I am looking forward to the long weekend. So school started this week and we are slowly getting into the school routine. All the activities have not started for my boy yet but it is just a matter of time.

So today I am up with a sketch inspiration from SOUS. The sketch was created by the very talented Nanne from SOUS.

And here is my interpretation. The first change I made was to make it an 8.5 x 11 layout. They seem to be the rage these days and a lot of people seem to be adopting this style. I think I am going to do more of these especially when there is a single photo on the layout. It forces you to think a little different and I think I am liking the change after making tons of 12x12 layouts. Also the advantage with this size is that you can print directly on your main cardstock if you plan ahead. For this layout I used 4x4 photo of my son performing at the battle of the bands contest a few months ago. There were a bunch of bands from our area competing in this contest. My son's band didn't win a prize but it was a great exposure for them. They were also the youngest kids on stage.

All the patterned paper, stamp, sequins and the vellum are from the Studio Calico kits (my absolute favorite thing). The gold stars which did not photograph very well and also from Studio Calico. The stickers are from one of Amy Tan's collections.
Be sure to play along to enter into the drawing for a prize from limeCitron. Can't wait to see how you interpret this sketch.

Die cut challenge for SOUS

Hi everyone... I have been out of action for a long time now. We were out of the country on vacation for six weeks. It was wonderful getting to meet family and friends and do some sight seeing along the way.

I am up with a layout for the SOUS die cut challenge this week. The topic this week is 'Blow Out The Candles'. Use die cuts that have anything to do with a party for your project and link us up and be eligible for an entry to win a prize for the month of August.

Here is my layout using cocktail glasses as die cuts. I first replicated my glasses and tilted them and placed them randomly using my silhouette software. I then cut it out on white cardstock using my silhouette. I backed it with some fun patterned paper from Studio Calico. I also filled in a couple of glasses with silver sequins. I used a photo of a friend and me having fun at a place called Windmills Craftworks in Bangalore. The place is a microbrewery. I am not a big drinker but got to taste a couple of different flavored beers and had some mocktails and cocktails. We had a fun fun time.

Die Cut Challenge with SOUS - In the Water

For this week's die cut challenge with SOUS - you can use anything in the water. I chose to use surfboard die cuts for this challenge.
I decided to use an older collection from MME - on the sunny side for this layout. I have had this 6x6 paper pad for the longest time. I am glad to have used it. It is a beautiful collection for summer related layouts. I also made a 8.5x11 layout. This format seems to be the trend lately. I think it totally makes sense if we are using only a single photo.

Here is my layout:

This is a photo of my son trying to boogey board in Hawaii during one of our vacations. He had so much fun. I used MME and Studio Calico enamel dots to add a little more pop of color. I also used some stickers from my latest Studio Calico kits. The cut out the surfboards with my silhouette. The cool thing is all the paper is from a 6x6 paper pad.
Do play along and you could win a prize from the cutting café.

June 20th Sketch for SOUS

Here is another fun sketch challenge for your from SOUS. I love circles, they add that special touch to any layout. Here is the sketch.....

Here is my take. I totally enjoyed making this. I usually make layouts with pictures of my kids. This time I wanted to document a little bit of our garden. We have a pretty cute garden and of course the best part of it is the roses. I love the pop of color they add.

I changed the scale of the sketch a little bit. I also moved the little circular photo up as it did not fit in the lower portion of the sketch. I encourage you to do the same. Adapt the sketch to your photos. I also always have to add a little bit of journaling on my layouts. I truly think that it is important to document your thoughts about the photos especially when you took so much time to create a layout. I typed the journaling on to a tag and fit it on my layout. I cut out the loopy circle with silhouette. All the elements I used on this layout are from kits that I get from Studio Calico. I also added some gold mist towards to the end.

Here is a close up of the journaling:
Play along at SOUS and you can win a gift certificate from The Cutting Café. You can find more details on the SOUS webpage.

Have a great weekend!
